I LOVE having good looking lashes 24/7. I got a lash lift and tint and I truly did love my results, but after a while I wanted my lashes to look fuller. So I got extensions. I had eyelash extensions for about over a month and I absolutely loved them. Extensions are a lot of work to keep up with though which is why I decided to take a break and go back to getting a lash lift. So what’s the difference?
What are they?
Lash extensions are synthetic lash strands that are individually attached to the base of your natural lashes with glue. There are different types of extensions that you can choose from depending on where you go. I go to Wink iBoutique where they offer hybrid (this is what I got), 2-D, and full fluff.
How long do they last? Aftercare?
This depends on how well you take care of them and also on your own natural eyelash growth cycle. With proper care they should last you about 2-3 weeks. Mine only last about 2 weeks.
Make sure to gently brush them daily with a spoolie, clean once a day with an oil free cleanser, don’t expose them to steam or extremely hot water, and definitely do not touch, pick, or rub your extensions. You also can’t use any oil based products so you have to watch what eye liners, primers, and creams you use. Also, careful when cooking. I was using the oven one day and when I opened the oven to remove my food, the heat actually straightened my lashes out completely and they looked so wonky. Unfortunately there was no saving them so I had to get them removed and get a new set a week later.
What about fills?
How often you need fills depends on how long your extensions last. Typically you need about 50% of your eyelash extensions remaining to get a fill. Any less and you usually have to get a new set. Where I go, they offer a half fill and full fill. Nine times out of ten, I always needed a full fill.
Lash extensions are gorgeous, but they definitely come at a price. Depending on where you go, they can cost upwards of $300. Fills also vary on price as it is dependent on half fill or full fill and the type of lashes. I would get hybrid lashes and a full fill every other week. So $150 for the full set and then a full fill would cost $100. So I would spend $200+ each month on my lashes. Don’t forget to tip!
What is it?
It’s essentially a perm for your eyelashes. When you go in, they place these silicone pads on your eyelids and brush your lashes on top of it. They then apply a perming solution at the base of the lashes and allow it to sit for about 10+ minutes. The last step is the tint. Lashes are tinted with a black dye.
How long do they last? Aftercare?
You can expect these to last about 6-8 weeks! Although the tint will last about 4 weeks.
Aftercare is minimal compared to eyelash extensions. For the first 24 hours try to avoid getting them wet. Once that period is up, you don’t have to worry about water, steam, or heat ruining your lashes! Although you should avoid using waterproof mascara. I bought a pack of empty mascara tubes on Amazon and filled them with coconut oil. Coconut oil is said to moisturize your lashes and protect them from damage so I use this daily on my lashes.
A lash lift is only going to set you back about $100. Definitely a lot more affordable than lash extensions.
So which is right for me?
If you want a dramatic look and additional length and don’t mind the maintenance or price, then I definitely recommend getting lash extensions. If you want just a little boost without the cost or aftercare, then go for the lash lift. Remember, lash lifts don’t actually add volume or length as it works only with your natural lashes. If you have super short or sparse lashes, don’t expect substantial results.
